Public Relations vs Marketing – Episode #156

by Richard Wilson on August 18, 2011

The following video is borrowed from our BusinessTraining.com platform and was originally recorded for our public relations training program.   It can sometimes be hard to distinguish between marketing and public relations.  In this video you will learn the difference between marketing and public relations.

Video Transcript/SummaryThe strategies and tips provided within this video module include:

  1. Marketing and public relations are not the same thing.
  2. They are growing more and more similar though.
  3. Public relations is the process of building and maintaining relationships with the public.
  4. Marketing aims to increase sales and overall company performance.
  5. One analogy: marketing is like a blunt bribe; PR is like a bribe but built on building a relationship rather than convincing people of something.
  6. Companies need to be more aware of the changes taking place in the online (and offline) world and recognize how marketing and public relations can work together to create happy, loyal, evangelistic customers.
There is certainly an important distinction between marketing and public relations, but that does not mean that the two areas cannot work together to make your business stronger.
Thanks for joining us, and I will see you again soon,
