over-train employees

You Can’t Over-Train Your Team – Episode #89

by Richard Wilson on August 2, 2011

The following video is borrowed from our BusinessTraining.com platform and was originally recorded for our business management training program.  A common misconception in business management is that you can somehow over-train your team.  In this video, I explain why you can’t over-train your team.

Video Transcript/Summary: The strategies and tips provided within this video module include:

  1. I really do not believe that you can over-train your team.
  2. Your core function as a business manager is as a resource to your team.
  3. The more training that you give somebody, typically the more loyal they will be, the more efficient they will be and the more receptive they will be to further guidance that you give them.
  4. If you train your staff well then you and your business will benefit because their ideas and work will be better and you will benefit from their informed perspective.
  5. Many people worry that by over-training they will drive the employees away but often times this is exactly why people leave the job.
  6. Sometimes it seems like that if you train someone then they will leave and this might prevent you from adequately training your staff.  If you under-train your team then you will always have an underperforming, unproductive team of employees.

I believe that the idea that you can over-train your team is a myth and I try to train my employees as much as possible.  This not only benefits my employees because they are constantly learning how to do their job better, but it also helps my business because I am getting the biggest return on my employees’ work.

Thanks for joining us, and I will see you again soon,
